Terminal Operating System Streamlines Efficiency for Growing Southeast Asia Terminal

Seattle, WA — Tuesday, March 12, 2013

Tideworks Technology®, Inc., a premier provider of full-service terminal management and planning software solutions, today announced that Cai Lan International Container Terminal (CICT) has successfully implemented Tideworks’ terminal operating system (TOS) solutions. CICT went live with Tideworks Technology’s solutions at the greenfield terminal located in Ha Long City, in the Quang Ninh Province, to effectively manage terminal operations and provide an excellent level of service to its customers.

Cai Lan International Terminal is a joint venture between SSA Holdings International, Vietnam, and the Cai Lan Port Investment Consortium, whose main shareholders are the Vietnam National Shipping Lines and Quang Ninh Port. The terminal has capacity for approximately 520,000 TEU annually. Future CICT expansion plans will increase capacity to 1.2 million TEU per year. The growing port currently handles approximately 2,000 vessel moves per week and routinely achieves better than 35 gross moves per crane hour.

“We are honored to be part of this new and highly-productive venture at CICT, the first terminal in Vietnam to implement our solutions, and we look forward to continuing to partner with the terminal as it grows and expands,” said Michael Schwank, president of Tideworks. “As we expand our own presence in Southeast Asia, this significant deployment helps affirm Tideworks’ position as a top provider of terminal operating systems in the region.”

CICT has deployed Tideworks’ Mainsail Terminal Management System®, Spinnaker Planning Management System®, and Traffic Control™ to manage container operations. During a second phase Tideworks will help implement a third-party equipment position detection system (EPDS), providing more accurate locating and control of handling equipment as well as improved inventory management. Additionally, the servers and IT equipment will be relocated into a new server room as part of this second phase.

Through a combination of resources in Seattle and Singapore, Tideworks provided all implementation services at CICT, including project management, technical consulting, user training and go-live support. Additionally, Tideworks is providing on-going 24/7 technical support and all software upgrades as part of the agreement. Under an Infrastructure Service Agreement incorporated in the master agreement, Tideworks will also provide CICT with remote technical services to include system health monitoring and database and OS administration. Tideworks’ TOS went live at CICT in the third quarter of 2012. The second phase is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2013.

“After a competitive bid process, we selected Tideworks based on their great reputation and unmatched support model,” said Patrick Advice, CICT general director. “Tideworks delivered a comprehensive system solution coupled with a strong support network. With the help of Tideworks’ solutions, CICT is setting remarkable benchmarks in efficiency and productivity. We continue to break vessel productivity records, achieving a gross production of 40.81 moves per hour per crane at the end of 2012.”
