Jacksonville Terminal Realizes Benefits of Next-Generation Terminal Operating System

Seattle, WA — Tuesday, March 11, 2014

Tideworks Technology®, Inc., a premier provider of full-service terminal management and planning software solutions, today announced that SSA Cooper’s operation at Talleyrand Terminal has successfully gone live with the first full implementation of Tideworks’ Mainsail Vanguard®, its next-generation terminal operating system (TOS).

Mainsail Vanguard replaces Tideworks’ legacy core TOS and integrates seamlessly with the other Tideworks solutions previously implemented at the terminal, including the Spinnaker Planning Management System® and Forecast® by Tideworks. The Mainsail Vanguard TOS is built on a Rich Internet Application (RIA) framework, providing a highly interactive and intuitive user experience. It features powerful and flexible search tools that enable users to find information quickly and easily, without the need for custom development, allowing them to complete tasks more efficiently. The terminal went live with Mainsail Vanguard in March 2014.

“The flexibility of Mainsail Vanguard is amazing,” said Pat Schulz, terminal supervisor at Talleyrand. “The application is straightforward and easy to learn. That’s an advantage for any system. Now, we are able to answer customers’ questions faster and meet their needs more quickly. We were looking for speed, ease and accuracy. Mainsail Vanguard delivers on all of those points.”

SSA Cooper’s facility is a 35-acre terminal leased by Hamburg Süd from JAXPORT (Jacksonville Port Authority) and operated by SSA Cooper. The terminal services Hamburg Süd, vessel-sharing partner CSAV, and Mediterranean Shipping Company, providing three weekly services to South America. Talleyrand is equipped with four ship-to-shore container cranes, one 100LT capacity whirley crane for heavy lifts, on-dock rail facilities and two rubber-tired gantry cranes for rail operations. Its on-dock rail facilities are run by Talleyrand Terminal Railroad, Inc., which provides direct switching service for Norfolk Southern and CSX rail lines.

SSA Cooper and Tideworks formed a partnership last year to fully understand the terminal’s business requirements, cooperate on rounding out the Mainsail Vanguard functionality, and thoroughly test the final solution. Tideworks’ collaborative approach was vital to the success of the project and will be utilized as Mainsail Vanguard is deployed at additional customer sites.

“It was important to us that the customer be involved throughout the process, so we could deliver a solution to meet their business and operational needs,” said Michael Schwank, president of Tideworks Technology. “We are excited to have completed a successful first, full implementation of Mainsail Vanguard and extremely grateful for the opportunity to work with such a terrific partner on this project. This is a huge milestone for us, and we’re looking forward to implementing our latest TOS solutions at our other customer sites in the future.”
