Florida International Terminal (FIT) has advanced its yard and gate operations with the implementation of Tideworks Technology’s Traffic Control system at its South Florida base.
This digital upgrade is reportedly transforming the way FIT handles equipment dispatch, with a strong focus on improving safety standards and accelerating gate and yard performance.
The newly deployed Traffic Control system replaces traditional manual and paper-based processes, which often relied on radio communications, with real-time electronic dispatching coordinated via tablets and laptops. This enhancement allows drivers to remain safely inside their vehicles throughout yard operations, reducing on-ground movements and direct interactions.
In parallel with the introduction of new physical barriers, these changes have improved driver safety and substantially reduced truck turn times at the terminal.
Justin Weir, President of Florida International Terminal, said: “Traffic Control has transformed how we manage yard operations. The safety improvements and operational gains we’ve seen in just a few months are helping us strengthen our position as a leading terminal in South Florida.
“These advancements support our commitment to safer, more efficient service for our customers and the community.”

By automating equipment moves and balancing workloads, FIT is now able to streamline container handling and respond rapidly to changing operational demands. The system is helping to increase accuracy and productivity while maintaining high standards of safety and efficiency.
Tideworks delivered all aspects of the implementation at FIT. This included project management, software customisation, integration services, user training and go-live support.
The company will continue to provide FIT with 24/7 technical support and ongoing maintenance.
Thomas Rucker, President of Tideworks, commented: “FIT’s operators have trusted our solutions for nearly 20 years, and we don’t take that lightly.
“By integrating Traffic Control with both our terminal operating system and gate operations, we’re equipping the operation with the tools needed to reduce unproductive moves, improve truck turn times and enhance yard safety, driving even greater results.”

The deployment, which went live in the first quarter of 2025, builds on FIT’s existing suite of Tideworks solutions, including Mainsail 10, Spinnaker Planning Management System, and the Forecast web portal.
FIT’s integration with Tideworks’ community portal means the terminal is better positioned to provide real-time visibility and optimise gate and yard operations.
